Throughout the 80s and 90s, Kurds in Turkey challenged the political destiny that had been drawn out for them. Many resistances were being staged and celebrated. One of these was the Newroz of 1992, which started out as a celebration but quickly transformed into a rebellion. Seventeen-year-old Berivan Cizre drew attention during those celebrations with the kefiye (head scarf-like cloth) around her head, becoming the symbol of the rebellion and leader of thousands people. This is her story.
