It has been 20 years since Perî Ibrahim first walked into the town of Halabja in the aftermath of Saddams chemical gas attack. It has been 20 years since he buried his best friend and his Kalashnikov and walked west. Filmed over 5 years, Kurdî tells the story of a man in search of himself, his people, his gun and a country that doesn’t exist.
The Last Season: Shawaks

The Shawaks are a nomadic community in Kurdistan. During the winter they live in stone houses in a village, then in the spring after the lambs are born they take their livestock to higher pastures in the mountains. Entire herds of sheep and goats, along with pack animals and dogs are put into rented trucks with the villagers and unloaded at the foot of the mountains. Kazim Oz accompanied the Shawaks for a whole year. This documentary produces an intimate depiction of a group of people who have to work very hard to eke out a humble living.

In an intelligence operation, the Iraqi regime arrested Leyla Qasim and four of her fellow underground political activists. Following their arrest, the five were executed by Saddam Hussein’s regime in 1974, with Leyla Qasim becoming the first woman to be publically executed in Middle East. Now revered as a national martyr among the Kurds, Leyla Qasim continues to inspire new generations. This documentary is based upon testimonies of people who knew her.
Life in Limbo

How would you feel if the only place you knew as home had its very existence threatened? Turkey for a long time tried to push forward the controversial Ilisu dam project to submerge the historical Kurdish town of Hasankeyf and the surrounding areas. The dam if built will bring social, economic, and environmental disaster to the region and will displace 78.000 people. Turkey’s attempt to get export credit for the project failed twice due to international and local campaigns. This documentary is based on interviews with the local population, construction companies and others involved in project.
The Lost Generation

The Lost Generation tells the stories of inhabitants from a village in Kurdistan which was deserted in the 1980s. After the 1991 uprising in Iraqi Kurdistan, the villagers returned but discovered that the area was covered with landmines. The villagers work to excavate the mines and sell them but the village loses 15 men who are killed by the mines and dozens become disabled.
