Shirin’s grandfather called her Shlemiel when she was an infant because she was plump and fleshy. Now, her father has been dead for several years but everyone refers to him by the title Shlemiel. Referring to someone who is lazy and clumsy, this title has been ridiculed by the villagers resulting in Shirin’s isolation. She tries to convince the villagers to call her by her real name.
