TWENTY YEARS OF ADMINISTRATION

TWENTY YEARS OF ADMINSTRATION

Director: Kerimok

South Kurdistan (Iraq) / 2010 / 30mins / Kurdish (Sorani) with English subtitles

In 1991, the people of Kurdistan rise up against the Iraqi government only days after the Gulf War ceasefire. Within weeks, the Iraqi military suppress the uprising. Tens of thousands of people flee to the mountains, resulting in a humanitarian crisis. When the US, Britain and France declare a no-fly zone at the 36th parallel, refugees and displaced people return. Months later, Saddam Hussein withdraws the Iraqi Army and imposes an internal blockade on Kurdistan. This is how the Kurdistan region, run by Kurdistan Regional Government, was established. Kerimok’s documentary looks at the achievements of the Kurdish administration in the last 20 years with a particular attention to the most recent election campaign.
